As Albert Sees It

I just saw the movie Blood Diamond and although it was a brilliant movie with first rate actors I was sickened by the squalor and maltreatment of the men, women and children in Africa that correlates with malicious terrorists and smugglers controlling much of the Dark Continent. We are about to celebrate the Holidays with family and friends, full of rich food to be eaten from lavish tables, expensive presents exchanged in comfortable houses and as the song says, with "chestnuts roasting on an open fire." I hope these feelings I have don't go away that we must care that our brothers and sisters all over the world have food and drinkable water and shelter from the bitter cold and the blazing sun. If I don't care, who will; if I don't speak, who can?

In the December 15-17 USA WEEKEND Magazine, in an exclusive interview, Oprah Winfrey thinks most Americans don't "get" Africa, and she believes she knows why. "People who just came in from the soccer game or the ballet class or the Wal-Mart," when faced with African civil wars and genocide, desperate poverty and rampant AIDS, "they think that is so disconnected, so foreign, so removed from their lives, that they think those kids are different from their children," she says. "What you should be doing with your power and influence is to show the connection and not the disconnection." As Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, author or Death and Dying would say about Africa, "those are your children; those are our children."

Gift Giving - Light Foundation Scholarship

The Light Foundation Scholarship Fund, a not-for-profit organization created by several Sedona Intensive graduates, recently received its official 501(c)(3) status. These appreciative graduates, who felt that their lives had been changed forever, wanted to give back by helping those with limited financial resources to uncover their authentic selves through this life-altering experience. We compliment these individuals for their selfless acts of generosity.

No candidate is ever given a full scholarship-each recipient must make a partial financial investment themselves. As we come to the end of the tax year, please give generously to help those who need to change their lives have the chance to do so. Further information regarding scholarship applications and making tax-deductible contributions is available at www.lightfoundationscholarship.org.

The Signs of the Times

The Kabbalah Newsletter this month was so on point about what lies ahead that I quote to make sure we all understand why the Capricorn cycle is nose to the grindstone: "Capricorn points out the need for good old fashioned elbow-grease and responsibility." The Goat's 31-day run implies that we must not only pay for what we bought-more often over-spent-but to hit the floor running January 1 to make sure that we come out of our sugar-induced stupor and work time and a half to clean up all areas of our life. I like to see who I have harmed and how and make amends; it's also a good time to see who you can send your left-overs-clean out the closet and make a last minute donation to help someone less fortunate.

As we look forward to the New Year, let's see what each of us needs to do to lay tracks for a successful 2007.

The worldview must be changed by our actions. Not only will we have a rollercoaster ride economically, but our standing around the world needs major overhaul. Getting out of Iraq and staying out of Iran and North Korea should be priorities. Looking to the challenges of global warming will move to the front burner in spite of many who believe this catastrophe-waiting-to-happen is a hoax. The theme for next year is to realize that we are our brother's keeper and that we are responsible to see that those who hunger are fed and those who thirst are quenched.

The surprise for 2007 is that more and more of us will call ourselves Patriots, Independents, Libertarians and both Democrats and Republicans will see their bases diminish as we hold accountable those we elect to keep government interference and malfeasance minimal and civil rights protected. I have stood by my brothers and sisters of color since I was a child and it is time that all minorities enjoy the same safety, protection and dignity that we white Caucasians take as our entitlement.

We are going to start a Sedona Intensive Blog in 2007 and all of you are welcomed to see what we, united, can do. This will not be a bitch 'n bite site, but it will be a "what can we do for you" cyberspace place.

CAPRICORN (December 21 – January 19)

Virgo

As Hanukkah comes to a close for Jews and Christians celebrate Christmas, all you diligent and persistent goats will be blessed with an energy that only you can appreciate. The Universe will conspire to make sure that all signs see the value of 100 cents make a dollar and something worth having is built stone-by-stone and brick-by-brick. Celebrate the rewards of your labor. It could be a new house or one restored. A job you enjoy or a new opportunity. Whatever you do, don’t gloat. This is just who you are and why this time of year is yours to rejoice.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 17)

Virgo

You water bearers have one big problem that won’t go away. Delusional, debilitating and daunting Neptune is in your sign for a lot longer than you want to know. The caution here is to make sure those telepathic signals you are getting are real and not coming from a transmission of false hopes and dreams. It doesn’t help that Saturn will be squaring you for a few more months. The best defense against falling for an idea that is too good to be true? Seek wise counsel and then wait awhile. The Capricorn cycle is not the time to throw a lot of resources at the unproven. Stay with the hand life dealt you this month.

PISCES (February 18 – March 20)

VirgoIf you’ve bid three no trump and have forgotten how to count the cards, pray that someone who does will outbid you. Actually, if you have done the math on your bank account and assets outweigh liabilities, this is a good time to make a fresh start with a new job or business opportunity. We’ve told you a dozen times that Uranus in Pisces is not really destroying anything worth having; instead it’s opening up a new lease on life. Don’t just dream—make it happen—take action.

ARIES (March 21 – April 20)

Virgo

Is someone beating you to the parking place lately or hearing “Yes” from the bank when your application says “Rejected”? Life is all about timing and this is the time of the year to pay what you owe, learn to change you rather than leave a job because you don’t like the boss. If you’re looking for a quick remedy to all-around inertia, fat chance, there is none. Stick a CD in your home entertainment center and learn to meditate. Keep a journal. See what you can do for someone needier. Patience, selfish one—in thirty days you’ll be off to the races!

TAURUS (April 21 – May 20)

VirgoIf you didn’t get what you wanted for Christmas, chill and go buy it for yourself. No one can count the cost of anything quite like you can. Late December—January is a perfect time for you to make a New Year’s Resolution: don’t be so thin-skinned and learn that not getting your own way is no grounds to drive all the bad guys away. The change in attitude will make you happier and more user-friendly for the long haul. Change you, no matter how hard it may be.

GEMINI (May 21 – June 20)

Virgo

When no one is looking make up your mind without asking the whole neighborhood how you ought to be feeling. The Full Moon on January 3rd is going to free you up to feel as good as your mind will let you. If you have been feeling a touch of ennui, walk, run or jog; take up golf or shoot a few hoops or take a tennis lesson. There is nothing wrong with you that letting go and letting God won’t cure. I have it on good authority that God is tickled pink with you mercurial twins—you make plans and He laughs. 2007 is a year of outcomes and resolutions. Watch what you pray for!

CANCER (June 21 – July 22)

Virgo

The world is not against you nor is the deck stacked against you. The Sun has merely moved to the opposite sign of Capricorn and it’s time to grin and bear it. The Full Moon on January 3rd will make you feel as if everyone is still doing your bidding, but that will pass when you’re eating pot roast and potatoes alone at table. If I were a Cancer, I would call the church and see who needs what. Perhaps, it is time to volunteer at the soup kitchen. Whatever choice you make, get out of you and into someone or something that is in real need. Babysitting grandkids doesn’t count.

LEO (July 23 – August 22)

VirgoYou’re coming into the home stretch when Saturn moves out of your sign. What’s that old saw, “What doesn’t kill you makes you…is it better?” Since I have Leo rising, whatever has been going on has made me humbler, kinder, softer—and I hope it has done the same for you. There is a saying in astrology that after Saturn leaves your sign, you must make do with what’s left or been done during the reign of that cosmic cop, Saturn. Take stock and get ready to build your dream world beginning this summer. It ain’t all bad for lions and lionesses to eat a little crow. After all, nobody enters a room with more flair (or can make folks madder than you Leos).

VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)

Virgo

Okay it is time for the Virgos to shine this month. With the alignment of personal planets in Capricorn—which is another favorable earth sign—and the New Moon in January in Cancer—you think that all numbers on the crap table are winners and all systems are go from home to work. You’re right, if you dot i’s, cross t’s but don’t analyze everything to death as is your due. Here is a word of caution. Give advice when asked and don’t complain. Some people are still crawling out from that mound of Holiday debt. The truth be told—have a ball this month, if you can.

LIBRA (September 23 – October 22)

Virgo

If you are in the business of diplomacy, take a hike this month or delay the negotiations. You don’t want an iffy deal to go bad because you forgot to check with the stars. If you are not in a committed relationship, don’t start one at this time or you will rue the day you ever met him or her. Stick to basics: If someone gave you a lovely gift for Christmas or the Holidays or invited you to a party or dinner, do the polite thing and send them a thank-you note. Thank God for what you don’t have as well as what you do. Be your pleasant self and the offers will flow in February.

SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)

Virgo

What I like about this planetary cycle for Scorpio is that no sign benefits more than you do from the goats. Expect a windfall or a call back on a job. Always put the other person first and your turn will come quicker than you know it. If you have had great expectations about a person, place or thing, be patient. You are probably going to win without having to turn over tables or threaten anyone. The one thing that you are known for is persistence—and you usually win in the end.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 20)

Virgo

How was that wild ride late November and most of December? Did you come back in one piece from your rollercoaster adventures and wild escapades? Super. Now you can kick the dust from your boots and put away your passport because you are home for a spell. You’re not known to get interested in anything or anybody that does not tickle your fancy, but let me give you something to consider. How about getting a job and socking away what you earn. It won’t be long before you heed the call out of Africa or cruise down the River Nile or climb the Himalayas. Search the Internet for what calls you and who needs you. It is your time to receive to share.

As Scott Sees It

The combination of the holiday season and the recent death of a close friend who was only thirty six years old have provided me a wake-up call to take a closer look at my attitude towards life.  Too often I notice I keep my head down, focused on striving to get ahead, making sure my ducks are in a row, my i’s are dotted and my t’s are crossed.  This may be part of the equation to maintaining a responsible lifestyle, but it certainly doesn’t cover the full scope of living my life.

We never really know what our neighbor or a passerby at the post office or grocery store is dealing with on any given day.  Perhaps a simple hello or a genuine heartfelt smile is all they need to help them have a shift in attitude, which will then positively affect the lives of those with whom they come into contact.  During this season of giving, I am taking it upon myself to be conscious of my attitude of gratitude so that I may infect those around me with the simple pleasures in life that are gifts that keep on giving.
